Breathing Into Love: A February Reflection with Nalu Breathwork ❤️
February often arrives with a whirlwind of red roses and heart-shaped expectations. But at Nalu Breathwork, we believe the most profound “heart-opening” doesn’t come from a box of chocolates—it comes from the very air you breathe.
In the Hawaiian tradition, Nalu refers to the surging waves of the ocean. Just like the sea, our emotions ebb and flow. This month, we invite you to use your breath as an anchor, allowing you to ride the waves of love—whether that’s for a partner, your community, or the most important person in your life: yourself.
The Science of a Soft Heart
Did you know that intentional breathing can actually change how you relate to others? When we practice conscious connected breathing, we shift our nervous system from “fight or flight” into a state of receptive calm.
- Lowered Cortisol: Reducing stress hormones makes it easier to navigate relationship conflicts with grace.
- Oxytocin Boost: Rhythmic breathing can stimulate the “bonding hormone,” helping you feel more connected to those around you.
- Presence: By grounding yourself in the now, you offer the greatest gift of love—your undivided attention.
Celebrating Love in All Forms
Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about grand romantic gestures. This year, consider it a reminder to check in with your own heart space.
“Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts.” — Thich Nhat Hanh
If you’re looking for ways to expand your heart this February, here are a few beautiful resources and practices to explore:
- For the Science Seekers: Check out Mindful.org for simple actions that foster genuine connection.
- For the Romantics: If you’re in Australia, look into local events like Timeless Healing , a heart-opening online experience designed for Valentine’s weekend.
- For Daily Self-Love: Use the Smiling Mind app to build a “mental fitness” routine that prioritizes your emotional well-being.

A 5-Minute Practice: The “Nalu Heart-Wave” ♥️
You don’t need a beach or a studio to reconnect with your heart. Try this “Heart-Wave” practice whenever you feel overwhelmed or disconnected this month.
- Find Your Center: Sit comfortably or lie down. Place your right hand over your heart and your left hand on your belly.
- The Inhale (The Rise): Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of four. Feel the breath travel from your belly up into your chest, lifting your right hand like a rising wave.
- The Pause (The Peak): Hold the breath at the top for just two seconds. Visualise your heart space expanding with a soft, warm light.
- The Exhale (The Release): Sigh the breath out through your mouth for a count of six. Let your shoulders drop and imagine any tension or “clutter” around your heart washing away like sand returning to the sea.
- The Intention: On your next inhale, silently say to yourself: “I am open to love.” On the exhale: “I release what no longer serves me.”
Repeat this for five cycles. Notice how the rhythm of your own “waves” creates a sense of space and peace within.💕 Remember to receive Love, we give Love 💕
